Ciner Resource Corporation’s trona is naturally mined 850 feet below the earth using the room and pillar method. After excavation, it is transported to the surface by a series of conveyor belts where the trona is transformed into sodium carbonate inside our 3.25 ton facility. This transformation is achieved through evaporative crystallizer technology, which adds water to remove impurities, enhancing the quality of the product. The soda ash and water mixture is contained in holding ponds throughout the facility until the water evaporates. The resulting slurry is placed into a centrifuge that separates the remaining water from the recently formed soda ash crystals. These crystals are dried and placed in storage, ready for transport all around the world.
Ciner’s all natural mining and refining methods produce a pure product. Other, unnatural, yet common extraction methods include the Solvay and Hou processes, both of which produce synthetic soda ash. These synthetic processes contain a number of different chemicals and leave behind byproducts that require either seaside discharge or waste beds to catch leftover impurities. These impurities have led to water pollution and an overall deterioration of their surrounding environment.
In an effort to continually improve the world around us, Ciner developed a unique process that reduces the capacity of the containment ponds and recovers useable soda ash, effectively eliminating waste. Our purified soda ash crystals are harvested from the holding ponds seasonally and introduced as additional feedstock to assist in the future mining of trona ore.
Ciner offers multiple storage options for its soda ash prior to transportation. Due to bulk soda ash’s granular nature it is stored in epoxy-lined steel bins to safeguard against segregation. Bagged soda ash is stored in a warehouse environment free from excessive humidity and moisture. Soda ash solutions are generally stored in a tank. As an alternative to large volume tankage, we also offer a slurry storage system that consists of a device for both slurrying the dry bulk soda ash and transferring it into a storage tank, which reclaims the solution.
Once properly stored, Ciner coordinates and manages the transportation of our soda ash to customers around the world through a variety of transits. We manage the export of bulk soda ash to Western Europe and South Africa via bulk vessels. While our primary means of transportation is bulk rail shipments via a dedicated fleet of covered hopper railcars, we also offer truck deliveries. Ciner also works with a number of responsible chemical distributors across the U.S. and Canada.
Ciner soda ash is naturally mined from the ground and refined with no additional chemicals so we can offer our customers superior, environmentally-friendly, high quality soda ash with every shipment. Our all-natural approach keeps costs low, allowing us to distribute Ciner soda ash all over the world in a cost-effective and competitive manner.
