Ciner (pronounced ‘jin-ner’) Resources Corporation is one of the world’s largest producers of natural soda ash. Formerly OCI Chemical Corporation, we are headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, with offices in Europe and a state-of-the-art production facility in Green River, Wyoming.
Through humble beginnings, Ciner has grown to become a global leader in the soda ash industry. It began in 1962 when Stauffer Chemical opened the Big Island Mine and Refinery in Green River, Wyoming, producing soda ash from the mined trona. In 1996, OCI Chemical Corporation purchased interest in the operation and as technology improved over the years, so did productivity. Innovations like the continuous miner and automated units increased the quality and quantity of soda ash production by the tons. In 2015, Ciner Enterprises Inc., a subsidiary of Ciner Group, acquired OCI Chemical Corporation. A year later, Ciner Resources received the 2,000,000 Safe Man Hours without a Lost Time Accident Award and continues to provide the world with high quality soda ash today. Our 3.25 million ton facility has been producing and shipping high-quality soda ash around the world since 1962.
There is a reason industries around the world choose Ciner—we produce pure, all-natural soda ash. Unlike the synthetic Solvay and Hou methods, which use a number of different chemical processes, Ciner soda ash is mined from the ground and refined with no additional chemicals. This natural approach keeps our costs low, allowing us to distribute our product all over the world in a cost-effective and competitive manner.
We are not only dedicated to producing environmentally-friendly soda ash, we are committed to the communities where we live and work. Ciner employees serve as leaders for charitable organizations, volunteer firefighters, EMTs, youth sport coaches, and community leaders. We are proud of our employees, their efforts, and the resulting reputation Ciner holds within our communities. Some of the causes and non-profit organizations we are proud to support include Meals on Wheels, Relay for Life, The Boys and Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, American Cancer Society, Special Olympics, and the American Red Cross.
All Ciner facilities operate with safety at the core of everything we do. Safety is a value, not just a priority and more important than the collection of soda ash is our miners. As a result, we run the country’s safest underground mine. Our Wyoming Big Island Mine and Production Facility has received numerous national and international safety awards. We believe the most important thing to come out of the mine are the miners. This is how we do business. It’s who we are.
